Biglari?s second-quarter earnings down 19.7 percent

Biglari Holdings Inc. reported $4.5 million in net income on revenues of $7.9 million for the 16 weeks ended April 11, 2012.
This compares to net income of $5.6 million on revenues of $8.5 million for the 16 weeks ended April 13, 2011. Biglari Holdings (NYSE: BH) owns the Steak n Shake restaurant chain. Steak n Shake?s same-store sales increased 4.8 percent in the quarter.

Alabama Trust Bank NA was shut down today by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which was appointed as receiver by the OCC, entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with Southern States Bank in Anniston to assume all of the deposits of Sylacauga-based Alabama Trust Bank.
The sole branch of Alabama Trust Bank will reopen during its normal business hours Saturday as a branch of Southern States Bank.

NADB closes on $65 million solar project loan

The North American Development Bank has closed on a $65 million loan agreement with SunEdison that will be used toward the construction of a 20-megawatt solar park in Picture Rocks, Ariz.
SunEdison will supply electricity to Tucson Electric Power over a 20-year period. The solar park will consist of hundreds of photovoltaic modules on a 250-acre lot owned by Tucson Water, a department of the City of Tucson.

Facebook buys social gift app maker Karma

Facebook Inc. made its first acquisition as a public company on Friday.
It bought social gifting app developer Karma for an undisclosed sum, picking up 16 employees.
The app site will continue to stay up and be functional, so it doesn't appear this wa a simple acqusition of talent.
Karma was funded by Kleiner Perkins, Obvious Corporation, Sequoia Capital and Felicis Ventures.

Expect to see a brass-knuckle battle for orders in coming months as Boeing and Airbus vie for market share in the all-important narrow body jet market.
Here in Boeing country, people may take comfort in Boeing claims that the 737 Max will be more fuel efficient than the competing Airbus A320neo.
But the bottom line is aircraft sold, and at this moment, Boeing is still playing catch-up.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Timothy Dore ruled against Bellevue businessman Tom Hazelrigg III Friday morning, saying Hazelrigg could not refuse to answer questions about his finances in his involuntary bankruptcy by making a blanket assertion of his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.
Hazelrigg had turned in largely blank bankruptcy schedules earlier with a notation that he was asserting his Fifth Amendment right.

Adrienne Bankert, a popular morning anchor for KCRA-TV Channel 3, will be leaving the Sacramento station for a position at KTVT-TV, a CBS station in Dallas, a much larger market, according to a source with knowledge of the move.
Neither Bankert nor the news director at KTVT could immediately be reached for comment.

Johnson County businessmen Ben Craig and Larry Winn filed a motion Friday to intervene in the Kansas redistricting lawsuit that may set the state?s legislative boundaries.
Craig and Winn said they want to protect the interests of Johnson County in ensuring it gets fair representation in the redistricting plan. The Kansas Legislature has failed to agree on new maps, leading Secretary of State Kris Kobach to ask a panel of federal judges to weigh in.
