Wells Fargo to hold mortgage assistance event in Dallas

Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) will hold a free Home Preservation Workshop Thursday to offer assistance to Wells Fargo mortgage customers who might be having financial difficulties.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Dallas, 300 Reunion Blvd.

Apple, IBM leaders among world?s most valuable brands

Apple grew its value as the globe?s most valuable brand by 19 percent in the past year, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal reports.
According to the annual BrandZ study by market researcher Millward Brown, Apple?s brand is now worth an estimated $183 billion, or 37 percent of its market capitalization.

Washington University receives $3 million to design cancer-killing viruses

Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have received a $3 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to develop a single virus equipped to find, image and kill cancer cells, all at once, the St. Louis Business Journal reports. Led by Dr. David Curiel, professor of radiation oncology, the program will build on his group?s expertise with adenovirus, which causes the common cold and has shown promise in cancer therapeutics and imaging.
Naropa University picks familiar name as new president

Charles Lief will return to Boulder from Vermont to take over as president of Naropa University, the Daily Camera reports.
Lief, who helped found the university in 1974, is chairman of the school's board. He takes over from John Whitehouse Cobb, who filled the president's role on an interim basis after the resignation last September of Stuart Lord.

PPD names Pfizer vet chairman and CEO

Pharmaceutical Product Development LLC said Wednesday that its board of directors has named David Simmons chairman and CEO. Simmons joins PPD from Pfizer Inc., where he served as president and general manager of the emerging markets and established products business units. Simmons begins his new role June 4 and will be based in PPD?s headquarters in Wilmington.
Benchmark buys in Maryland, wraps Tonawanda work

The Benchmark Group has added to its real estate portfolio by acquiring a Maryland apartment complex and, at the same, has completed the build out of the Delaware Sheridan Plaza in the Town of Tonawanda.
The Amherst-based Benchmark has purchased the 144-unit Greens at Cross Court Apartments in Easton, Md. Benchmark was part of a private investment group that purchased the garden-style apartments from a real estate investment trust.

Delta, Southwest agree on jet lease deal

Delta Air Lines reached a deal to lease 88 Boeing 717s that Southwest Airlines got when it bought AirTran but doesn't want, reports The Associated Press.
Delta will start taking three 717s a month beginning in mid-2013 if its pilots approve a new labor contract, the news service reported.
Delta, the busiest airline flying out of Dayton International Airport, would use the 117-seat planes to replace 50-seat regional jets and the DC-9s the airline got when it bought Northwest, The AP said.

Chipotle's immigration probe isn't over yet

Chipotle Mexican Grill, which faced a big investigation of its hiring practices last year and cut a third of its Minnesota workforce over immigration issues, is facing a new probe into the issue.
Minnesota Public Radio reports that Chipotle is facing a criminal investigation by prosecutors who want to know if Chipotle tried to hide the earlier investigation from investors. Nation's Restaurant News notes that the company has received subpoenas from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
